Biography

The News Bureau at Centenary College of Louisiana appears to have been established in August 1924, and it served as the administrative office responsible for publicizing news about the college. The office collected information about Centenary’s faculty, staff, and students. It created and distributed press releases to the region’s newspapers as well as television and radio stations. It also edited the alumni newsletter “This is Centenary” (1942-1968), the college magazine Centenary (1970-1988), the faculty-staff news bulletin “Scuttlebutt” (1963-1987), and brochures of the college’s Development Office.

The name of the office was used with varying consistency over time. The following list of the predominate names and years are approximate: News Bureau (1924-1936), Public Relations Department (1936-1951), News Bureau (1951-1979). In later years, the office had additional name changes: Public Relations (1979-2008), Marketing and Communications (2008-2010), External Relations (2011-2015), Marketing and Communication (2016-present).
