Biographical / Historical

Montpelier United Methodist Church was located at 2099 Saint Helena Avenue, Montpelier, Louisiana.

The Montpelier Methodist Church was organized in approximately 1904. Worship services were held at first in a one-room schoolhouse. In 1906, a lot was donated by the Natalbany Lumber Company as a site for the church. The deed was accepted and signed by Alexander L. Brown, who helped build the first church building. The Church was dedicated on May 24, 1908.

The first church served as the sanctuary until 1968 when the heirs of F.W. Reimer donated land adjoining the church property to serve as the location of the new church. This building was dedicated April 1, 1973. A bell tower holding the original bell from the first church was built adjacent to the church by members of Mrs. Nannie Bond’s family, and dedicated to her memory in 1987.

Many of the records were lost in a flood in 2016.

Montpelier United Methodist Church disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church in May 2023.
