Biographical / Historical

Hornbeck United Methodist Church (Hornbeck, La.) is located at 2382 Port Arthur Avenue, Hornbeck, Louisiana.

The congregation first met under brush arbors in the late 1800s. After land was donated by N.A. Mcinnis, a church was built in 1902. The sanctuary was round. The lectern stood in front of the choir, and a pump organ provided the music. A metal chandelier with kerosene lamps hung in the center. A large circular stained glass window was on the west wall. In 1909, Henry Beckcom gave the church some land next to his farm to use as a cemetery.

The original church burned down in 1938. Since it was at the time of the Depression, the new church was smaller and was built with donated lumber and fixtures discarded from other churches. The church was renovated in 1963. The windows got a facelift in 1982/83 and the parking lot was paved. A new education building dedicated to L.B. Youngblood was completed in 1991. Vinyl siding was added to the church in 1992.

Hornbeck United Methodist Church disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church in 2023.
