Scope and Contents

This collection primarily documents the activities of the First United Methodist Church (Campti, La.). It includes membership records, quarterly conference records, charge conference records, financial records, building and property records, bulletins, certificates, and a guest book.

Quarterly conference as well as charge conference records contain information about other nearby congregations. During the 1930s this included: Davis Springs Methodist Episcopal Church South (Natchitoches Parish, La.), Atlanta Methodist Episcopal Church South (Atlanta, La.), Sanders Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church South (Winn Parish, La.), and Liberty Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church South. During the 1970s this included Oak Grove United Methodist Church (Natchitoches, La.). During the 1980s this included: College Avenue United Methodist Church (Natchitoches, La.) and Strange United Methodist Church (Readhimer, La.).

Biographical / Historical

First United Methodist Church (Campti, La.) traces its origins to 1899. The church was closed during part of the 1940s as World War II took place, but had been reactivated by 1949. The congregation’s church building was located at approximately 260 Lake Drive in Campti, Louisiana. The church was discontinued in 2009.
