Biographical / Historical

Indian Bayou United Methodist Church (Indian Bayou, La.) is located at 1029 Louisiana Highway 700, approximately eight miles southeast of Rayne, Louisiana

Methodist circuit riders first made their way to the Indian Bayou area in the early 1800s. Isaac Hoffpauir was converted to Methodism by one such preacher in 1834. Isaac and his new wife settled at Indian Bayou the next year. Meetings led by Hoffpauir and others were held at private homes for years.

Finally, in 1862, a church was built. Known at that time as Kimball's Chapel, its first pastor (appointed in 1872) was Abel Hoffpauir (Isaac's son). Through the years, the church has produced many outstanding Methodists. Three members who went on to join the ministry are Ivy Hoffpauir, Louis Hoffpauir, and Glynn Foreman.

Indian Bayou United Methodist Church disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church in 2022.
