Biographical / Historical
Castor Methodist Episcopal Church South (Castor, La.) originated in the 1850s at the present site of Old Castor Cemetery. When the Louisiana and Arkansas Railway was constructed in 1900, the Castor community moved three miles west to the rail line. In 1912, a Methodist church was established in the new Castor community. The original “Old Castor” church continued holding services until about 1924, then a fire destroyed the building in 1926. Members from the “Old Castor” congregation subsequently joined the newer Castor Methodist Episcopal Church South.
