Scope and Contents
This collection consists of the minutes of annual meetings (called a District Conference) by the
Baton Rouge - Hammond District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.
These meetings were attended by the district’s clergy and lay delegates from each pastoral
charge; it was presided over by the district superintendent.
The minutes document the administrative activities of the meetings and regularly include lay
activities, resolutions, and reports from the following: United Methodist Women, United
Methodist Men, the Wesley Foundation, and District Board of Church Location and Building.

Biographical / Historical
The Baton Rouge - Hammond District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist
Church was formed in 1977. The congregations that constituted the district had previously
been assigned to other districts: Baton Rouge District of the Louisiana Conference of the United
Methodist Church and the Lafayette District of the Louisiana Conference of the United
Methodist Church.
In 1978, the district reported 16,762 members. The district consisted of congregations in
southeast Louisiana stretching from Clinton (north) to Gonzales (south) and Tunica (west) to
Hammond (east).
In 1989, the Baton Rouge - Hammond District of the Louisiana Conference of the United
Methodist Church was dissolved. The congregations that constituted the district were assigned
to other districts: Baton Rouge District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church and the North Shore District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist
Church.
