Scope and Contents
The Keachi Charge of the Methodist Episcopal Church South (DeSoto Parish, La.) records consist of quarterly conference records containing administrative reports about the activities of congregations located in northwest Louisiana. The reports include information about the spiritual condition of congregations, the religious instruction of children, financial matters, and statistical information about baptisms and membership. Specific individuals identified in the records are usually church administrators. In some instances, members are identified upon baptism or death.
Churches identified in the quarterly conference record book (1898-1901): Bethel, Belle Bower, Logansport, Longstreet. Churches identified in the quarterly conference record book (1902-1905): Bethel, Belle Bower, Keachi, Logansport, Longstreet, Stonewall.
The quarterly conference records indicate the charge’s name changed over time: Logansport Charge (1898-1901), Keachi and Logansport Charge (1901-1903), Keachi Charge (1903-1912). Note: Keachi is also sometimes spelled Keatchie and Keachie.
