From the Collection:

The Harry Hale, Jr. papers primarily consist of research material Hale collected while writing the book, Standing in the Gap: The Life and Ministry of Rev. Lea Joyner (Lima, OH: Fairway Press, 1987). Joyner was one of the few ordained woman in the Louisiana Conference of the Methodist Church (South Central Jurisdiction) during the mid-twentieth century. The collection contains newspaper clippings, written reminiscences, and research notes. Also included are audiocassettes of Joyner’s sermons as well as interviews with people about Joyner. Those interviewed include Joyner's cousins, Rev. J. P. "Bud" McKeithen and Louisiana Governor John McKeithen.
