Quarterly conference record book, 1897 - 1903
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of a quarterly conference record book for the Bayou Chicot and White’s
Chapel Circuit of the Louisiana Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. In 1899, it
begins documenting the newly-formed Chicot and Washington Circuit. Both circuits were part of the
Alexandria District in central Louisiana. Quarterly conference reports dated 1897 to 1903 indicate the
circuits included the following congregations: Bayou Chicot, Bayou Clair, Bethel, Elm Bayou, New
Haven, Turkey Creek, Washington, Waxia, and White’s Chapel.
The administrative reports include information about Sunday Schools, the general state of the churches,
finances, missions, and statistical information about baptisms and membership. Specific individuals
identified in the volume are usually church administrators. In some instances, members are identified
upon baptism or death.
