The New Orleans - Slidell District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church
was formed in 1977. In 1977, the New Orleans District of the Louisiana Conference of the
United Methodist Church was dissolved through the creation of two new districts: New
Orleans - Houma District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church and the
New Orleans - Slidell District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.
In 1978, the district reported 14,888 members. The district consisted of congregations in
southeast Louisiana stretching from Franklinton (north) to New Orleans (south) and Lutcher
(west) to Pearl River (east).
In 1989, the New Orleans - Slidell District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist
Church was dissolved. The congregations that constituted the district were assigned to other
districts: New Orleans District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church and the North Shore District of the Louisiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.
