Biographical / Historical

Robert Henry Wynn (1871-1931) is the son of John Franklin Wynn (1836-1920) and Pauline Gorton Wynn (1844-1918). He enrolled at Centenary College of Louisiana in 1884 and graduated in 1889. He was then enrolled as a post-graduate student at Centenary and also taught in Centenary’s preparatory department. From approximately 1891 to 1892, Wynn was enrolled in the Biblical Department at Vanderbilt University. In December 1892, Wynn was admitted on trial as a clergy member in the Louisiana Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. As a pastor, Wynn served numerous churches throughout Louisiana: Parker Memorial (New Orleans), Louisiana Avenue (New Orleans), as well as congregations in the towns of Algiers, Homer, Ruston, Minden, Monroe, and Lake Charles. In the Louisiana Conference, he also served as the presiding elder of the Lafayette District (1912-1913) and the Shreveport District (1921-1924). Wynn was president of Centenary College of Louisiana from 1913 to 1918. In 1897, he married Alma Sawtelle (1872-1966); they had three children.
