Centenary College of Louisiana Chaplain's Office records
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of Centenary College of Louisiana Chaplain’s Office records. Most were created by Dr. Robert Ed Taylor, who served as the chaplain from 1961 to 1996. The files include programs from the following campus events: chapel, commencement, president’s convocation, and other academic ceremonies. The chaplain’s duty was to participate in many of these events, and these programs include Taylor’s notes. Also included are files from the Beta chapter of the Kappa Chi Fraternity at Centenary. Kappa Chi is an interdenominational organization for those who plan to enter full-time church-related vocations.

Biographical / Historical
The Chaplain’s Office at Centenary College of Louisiana has origins in earlier administrative staff
positions such as the Director of Religious Activities (title used approximately 1954-1961) and the
Minister to the Campus (title used approximately 1961-1968). The chaplain has traditionally been
responsible for coordinating religious programs on campus, directing the Methodist Student
Movement, and counseling students and staff. In some instances, the chaplain has served as a faculty
member in the Religious Studies Department (previously known as the Religion Department).
Centenary chaplains and their years of service include: Webb Pomeroy (approximately 1954-1956),
James McLean (approximately 1957-1959), Don Guynes (approximately 1960-1961), Robert
Ed Taylor (1961-1996), Jayne Trammell-Kelly (1997-1999), Jack O’Dell (1999-2001), Betsy Eaves (2002-2013), Valerie Robideaux (2013-2015), Maegan Habich (2016-2017), Lindy Broderick (2017-present).
