Biographical / Historical
The Centenary College of Louisiana Choir was organized in 1941. During the group’s early years, they performed at campus functions, local events, and toured the region. In the late 1940s, they began regularly appearing at Lions Club International Conventions. The choir presented its first annual “Rhapsody in View” in 1949. In 1956, the choir conducted its first international tour by performing for American soldiers stationed at military bases in Japan and Korea. During the summer of 1961, they performed for nine weeks at Radio City Music Hall in New York. In the late 1970s, the choir began conducting international tours on a biannual basis. Directors of the choir: Alvin Clifton “Cheesy” Voran (1941-1972), William Ballard (1972-1974), William K. Andress (1974-2007), and David Hobson (2007-present).
