Biographical / Historical

Samuel Milton Thomas (1833-1910) is the son of David Thomas (1775-1849) and Elizabeth Pattillo Thomas (1786-1833). David Thomas served on the board of trustees of both the College of Louisiana (1828-1845) and Centenary College of Louisiana (1845-1849). During the mid-1840s, Samuel Milton Thomas was enrolled as a student at Centenary College of Louisiana’s preparatory department. He served as a soldier in the Confederate army during the American Civil War. In 1870, he was elected to the Louisiana State Senate. In 1898, Thomas was appointed postmaster of Benton, Louisiana.
