Biography

Charles Moss Bannerman (1903-1981) is the son of Moss McBride Bannerman (1865-1918) and Dessie Mae Boltz (1882-1963). Raised in Grand Cane, Louisiana, he attended Centenary College of Louisiana’s preparatory department from fall 1918 to spring 1921. He then enrolled in college at Centenary from fall 1922 until spring 1923. While at Centenary, Bannerman was a member of the college band and glee club. In the late-1920s and early-1930s, he performed in community theatre productions staged at Shreveport Little Theatre. Bannerman was an employee at Louisiana Oil Refining Company, Builders Supply Company, then worked as building superintendent at First Methodist Church (Shreveport, La.) from approximately 1950 to 1965. In 1934, he married Zula Gilcrease (1901-1980).

Scope and Contents The Charles Moss Bannerman scrapbook primarily consists of photographs documenting student activities and athletics at Centenary College of Louisiana from 1922 to 1923. Many photographs depict Centenary football players and games played during fall 1922. Newspaper clippings and ticket stubs from this football season also appear.
