Memorial United Methodist Church (Bastrop, La.)
Biography
Memorial United Methodist Church was located at 2202 East Madison Avenue, Bastrop, Louisiana.
In 1956, members of First Methodist Church (Bastrop, La.) decided to build another Methodist church in Bastrop to accommodate the town and church’s growth. The Louisiana Conference also decided to secure a pastor to serve the new church, as well as the nearby Beekman and Collinston Methodist Churches. This created a new Beekman charge. On September 16, 1956, a Charter Service was held with 60 members. On August 5, 1956, the congregation adopted the name Memorial Methodist Church. The groundbreaking service was held on March 17, 1957. The formal opening of the church was held on August 10, 1958. A parsonage was built and completed in April 1961.
Memorial United Methodist Church disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church in May 2023.
