Antioch United Methodist Church (Antioch, La.)
Biography
Antioch United Methodist Church (Antioch, La.) is located at 3406 Louisiana Highway 544, Antioch, Louisiana.
Services began in Antioch by holding services in a log schoolhouse. By 1872, a Union Church held services for the Methodist, Baptists, and Camelites. After that church burned down in 1882, another was built. In 1891, the congregations divided and the ninety-seven Methodists were led by Rev. J. D. Harper. The cornerstone says the church was organized in 1885.
When the church burned down in 1904, a new one was built two years later under the leadership of Rev. G.W. Hivley.
In 1950, work began on a new church. Services were held at the school next door during construction. The new church was dedicated on January 18, 1953.
A wing of classrooms and restrooms was built in the fall of 1984. The addition was dedicated at a Homecoming in October 1986.
Antioch United Methodist Church disaffiliated from the United Methodist Church in 2022.
