Biography

Centenary College of Louisiana’s Lafayette Society formed circa 1854. This organization is described in the college’s course catalog dated 1856-1857: “There is also connected with the Institution a Society, the object of which is to aid its members in the acquisition of the French language. The exercises of this, the Lafayette Society, are conducted exclusively in French, and they have, we believe, proved eminently successful in the promotion of the object for which the Society was established.”
