Photocopy facsimile of a letter from Elias Boatner to his son, Mark Boatner, who was a student at the College of Louisiana (Jackson, La.) during the 1830s. Describes parents’ disappointment and advice about Boatner’s poor student behavior as reported from the college president.

Biographical / Historical

Elias Boatner, Jr. (1793-1839) was involved in multiple business ventures in the region of Clinton, Louisiana. This included the Port Hudson to Clinton railroad, Clinton hotel, trading in real estate and slaves, and a saw mill in Port Hudson. He married Ann M. Hudson, and they had eight children who survived to adulthood. Their son, Mark Boatner (1822-1858), attended the College of Louisiana (Jackson, La.) and graduated in 1839.
